hackPHS is a 24-hour, student organized hackathon that will be held at Princeton High School, New Jersey, from November 3 - 4.
hackPHS will begin around 10:30 am on November 3rd and end around 2:30 pm on November 4th.
A hackathon is an event where groups of enthusiastic people come together to build awesome things in a limited period of time. At a hackathon, experienced engineers and interested beginners alike will learn new things, build innovative solutions to real-world problems, and share their creation with the community, all in one day. If you want to learn more, see the MLH Hackathon FAQ.
hackPHS will be held in the cafeteria of Princeton High School, located at 151 Moore St, Princeton, NJ. Limited parking will be available around the school. You should plan on arriving before 10:30 AM on Saturday (November 3) and leaving sometime after 2:30 PM on Sunday (November 4).
Apply by going to our registration link here! We will be doing admissions on a first-come first-serve basis, so apply ASAP.
Free food and drinks will be provided during the hackathon, including vegetarian and dairy-free options. We will also have dedicated sleeping areas for y'all to catch some Z's. Electrical outlets will be available throughout the cafeteria for all your charging needs. We will have a hardware lab, but if you need specific hardware, either email us at team@hackphs.tech, or bring the hardware with you.
If you wish to participate, you should bring your own laptop, cellphone, chargers, and all necessary items for spending the night (e.g. sleeping bag, toiletries). You don't need a predetermined team, an idea for your hack, or any food or drink. As the hackathon will be on school grounds, please refrain from bringing anything that would not be allowed at a high school (no weapons, alcohol, drugs, etc.).
Please feel free to email us at team@hackphs.tech if you have any other questions about hackPHS.
Unfortunately, this event is for high school students only. If you are no longer a high schooler and would like to help out, consider applying to be a mentor here!
hackPHS hopes to emphasize learning and collaboration more so than competition - nonetheless, there will be awesome prizes to be won for some the most interesting hacks made during the event.
Teams of up to 4 people are highly encouraged (though not mandatory), but even if you don't have one beforehand, hackPHS will be a great way to meet other enthusiastic people and even make new friends. No matter if you're a first time hackathon attendee and have no idea what to do (everyone was a beginner once), or are an experienced hacker who wants to give back to the community, it is a good idea to join our Facebook event. In addition to all the important announcements and information about the event, you'll be able to find others to guide you through the hackathon process and hopefully help you develop something awesome.
While you can learn a great deal in the process of building an ambitious project in such a limited time frame, we also plan to offer introductory workshops (around 1 hour each) during the event, for those new to software and/or hardware engineering. Specific topics will include Arduino programming, iOS development, and Python, among others.
Absoluetly! All hackers should abide by Major League Hacking's Code of Conduct - TL;DR is you should respect one another. Please also follow any instructions issued by school administrators and teachers while on PHS grounds.
